Kate Leeming Shop
On her expeditions, Kate Leeming has cycled a distance equivalent to twice around the world at the Equator.
In 1993, Kate became the first woman in history to cycle across the ‘New Russia’, when she organised, led and completed the five-month, 13 400-km Trans-Siberian Cycle Expedition in aid of the children of Chernobyl. Ten years later, she conceived and organised the Great Australian Cycle Expedition (GRACE), a 25 000-km journey through her own country, 7000 kilometres of which were to be ‘off road’ on isolated tracks in remote regions. On August 16th 2010, Kate completed her Breaking the Cycle in Africa Expedition, a 22,040-km, ten month journey from Senegal to Somalia exploring the causes and effects of extreme poverty, and in particular, the positives; what is being done to give a 'leg up' rather than a 'hand out'.
Kate's latest book, NJINGA, is about the Breaking the Cycle in Africa Expedition and her first book, OUT THERE AND BACK is the story of the Great Australian Cycle Expedition.
